Description

Guzmanias have nice colourful showy bracts that last for months at a time. 

Vrieseas have nice patterns on their leaves for constant interest and as a bonus get uniquely shaped brightly coloured flattened flower spikes. These blooms can last for several weeks at a time.

One of the most distinct features of these plants is that they are watered by filling up their "Tanks" which are found at the base of their cup shaped leaves instead of watering their roots. They slowly absorb the water that is put in these tanks as needed.

They slowly absorb the water that is put in these tanks as needed. All you have to do is top up the water tanks at the base of their leaves when they start to go down.

Additional Care Tips and Info

Once a bromeliad has flowered it will slowly die over up to 3 years. There is no need to worry though because as the main plant dies it shoots up little baby plants from the bottom which you get to pot up and enjoy later! :)

Try not to get hard water on leaves as it can stain them. Also try not to get fertilizer water on the leaves either as it can stain them. These two types of bromeliads require little to no fertilizing.

These two types of bromeliads will enjoy higher levels of humidity if provided.
